Union Minister Piyush Goyal Launches Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, launched the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform. This initiative aims to enhance India’s cleantech value chains in the solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage sectors, positioning the country as a global leader in sustainability.

During his address, Goyal emphasized the need for the clean energy sector to become self-sustaining and independent of government support. He stated that while Product-Linked Incentives (PLIs) and subsidies are useful for kickstarting the sector, they should not become long-term crutches. The sector must work toward self-reliance for sustainable growth.

The Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform is designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and co-innovation among Indian firms, providing them with a space to share ideas, technologies, and resources. Goyal encouraged participants to think innovatively and increase manufacturing scales within India. He emphasized that the platform would help make India an attractive business case and position it as a global leader in the cleantech sector.

Goyal also referred to India’s progress in meeting the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) set in the 2015 Paris Agreement, noting that India has already exceeded its renewable energy targets by setting up 200 Gigawatts of clean energy by 2022, eight years ahead of schedule. He expressed confidence that the nation would meet the ambitious goal of achieving 500 Gigawatts of clean energy by 2030.

Highlighting India’s leadership in climate change solutions, the Minister noted that Gujarat was among the first states to adopt solar power. He attributed the affordability of solar energy to the Prime Minister’s transparent auctions, fair competition, and large-scale implementation strategies. Shri Goyal emphasized the importance of speed, scale, and skill in the country’s renewable energy initiatives under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

The launch of the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a global hub for cleantech innovation and sustainability.
