Union Power Minister R. K. Singh Lays Foundation Stone for ICER Building at IISc Bengaluru

In a significant stride towards advancing the frontiers of energy research and sustainable technologies, Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh, laid the foundation stone for the state-of-the-art Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research (ICER) building at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru.

ICER, at the forefront of cutting-edge research initiatives, focuses on a diverse range of renewable energy domains, including the development of Net Zero Technology for Green Hydrogen, sCo2, Power and Turbine, and Clean Coal technology. The center is also engaged in pioneering research and development activities related to green energy technologies such as the generation of hydrogen and other biofuels from biomass, advanced batteries, and energy storage systems.

The new ICER building, envisioned as a hub for scientific breakthroughs and transformative change, aligns seamlessly with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a technologically empowered and self-reliant India.

Supported by the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the proposed building aims to replace the aging infrastructure currently housing ICER. The modern facility will span ground plus three floors and include cutting-edge laboratories, classrooms, seminar rooms, meeting spaces, a library, and computational facilities.

Power Finance Corporation has committed a generous assistance of Rs. 60.74 crores for the project, underscoring its commitment to fostering advancements in energy research and sustainable technologies. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is slated to complete construction by March 2026.

Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka, Shri Manoj Sharma, Director (Commercial), PFC, and Shri Ali Shah, Executive Director, CSR, PFC, graced the occasion with their presence.

The event marked a pivotal moment in the journey of ICER, ushering in a new era of research and innovation in the field of energy, as the center takes significant strides towards realizing its commitment to sustainable and clean energy solutions.
