US Designs Specialised Courses for Indian Students

The United States, in accordance with India’s recently implemented National Education Policy, has initiated an educational program that enables Indian students to pursue a one-year professional master’s degree with an industrial specialization in American universities.

These courses exclusively focus on the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and are scheduled to commence during the fall semester of 2024.

Following the completion of their studies, students will have the opportunity to remain in the US for a maximum of three years, in line with existing and applicable visa regulations, to gain practical work experience in the industry and fulfill their student loan obligations.

Twenty American universities and over 15 Indian universities are currently engaged in discussions on how to effectively capitalize on this initiative, with the support of the US State Department as a facilitator. Akhilesh Lakhtakia, a Jefferson Science Fellow at the State Department’s South and Central Asia (SCA) bureau has developed this program.

The new education policy has been introduced after two decades in India, which is aimed at making education available to all the citizens of the country. It is global in scope and focused on native cultures as well as the knowledge systems of India. And, dedicated to creating a partnership between the students and educators.
