New York: US-based electric car manufacturer Tesla has announced the appointment of Vaibhav Taneja, of Indian origin, as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This move comes after the previous finance chief, Zachary Kirkhorn, decided to step down from his position. Taneja, aged 45, will take on the role of CFO in addition to his current position as Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) at Tesla.
The company filing described Mr Kirkhorn’s 13-year tenure with the American EV giant, led by Elon Musk, as a period of ‘remarkable expansion and growth.’ Tesla expressed gratitude for Mr Kirkhorn’s significant contributions and announced that he would continue serving the company until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
Mr Taneja has held the position of Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) at Tesla since March 2019, and he has been the Corporate Controller since May 2018. Previously, he worked as the Assistant Corporate Controller from February 2017 to May 2018.
Additionally, he has held various finance and accounting roles at SolarCity Corporation, a solar panel developer based in the United States that was acquired by Tesla in 2016. Prior to that, Mr Taneja had a long and successful tenure at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked in both India and the US from July 1999 to March 2016, as stated in the company filing.
