In a solemn ceremony held at the Central Hall, Main Building of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Shri Sanjay Verma, a distinguished member of the Indian Foreign Service since 1990, took the oath of Office and Secrecy as the newest Member of UPSC. The oath was administered to him by UPSC Chairman Dr Manoj Soni, marking a significant milestone in Shri Sanjay Verma’s illustrious career.
Verma’s extensive diplomatic career has seen him serve in various capacities across the globe. Notable among his overseas assignments are Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the African Union, Consul General in Dubai, Counsellor in Beijing, Spokesperson and Counsellor in Kathmandu, Second Secretary in Manila, and Economic and Commercial Officer in Hong Kong.
Within the Ministry of External Affairs, Verma has handled critical roles, including the China Desk, Aide (OSD) to the Spokesperson, Joint Secretary (DG) for Energy Security, and Chief of Protocol.
Hailing from Mumbai, he is an alumnus of Wilson College and graduated in Economics from Mumbai University’s Jai Hind College. His academic prowess extends to a Masters in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where he also held a Fellowship in International Studies from the University Grants Commission of India. The recipient of the Dorabji Tata Scholarship, he has consistently demonstrated academic excellence.
Beyond his diplomatic pursuits, Verma is recognized as a university-level hockey player. His interests encompass a wide range, from reading and music to popular Indian culture and films.
