Vice Admiral AN Pramod officially assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO) on January 15, 2024. An alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course at the Naval Academy, Goa, embarked on his naval journey upon commissioning into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990. His expertise spans various domains, notably as a CAT ‘A’ Sea King Air Operations Officer and a Communication & Electronics Warfare Specialist.
Having completed the Staff Course at DSSC Wellington (Nilgiris) and the Naval Higher Command Course at NWC, Goa, Vice Admiral Pramod’s career highlights include pivotal afloat appointments such as Fleet Operations Officer, Western Fleet, and commanding various Indian Navy ships, including IN ships Abhay, Shardul, and Satpura. His leadership extends to roles as the Executive Officer of Rajput, SCO Sujata, and GO II Kirpan.
Noteworthy achievements in Vice Admiral Pramod’s career also include his command of the Naval Air Station, Utkrosh, at Port Blair, and his role as Directing Staff at DSSC, Wellington. Additionally, he has held vital staff appointments, serving as Joint Director, Naval Air Staff, Joint Director, Director, and Principal Director Aircraft Acquisition.
His involvement in strategic decision-making is evident through his membership in the Indian Strategic & Operational Council (INSOC) from 2016 to 2019 and the Tactical Audit Group (TAG) from 2006 to 2009. Furthermore, Vice Admiral Pramod has contributed significantly to the naval leadership landscape, having tenanted the roles of Deputy Commandant at the Indian Naval Academy, ACNS (Air) at Naval Headquarters, and Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area.
