Vikram Mistry Appointed as New Foreign Secretary of India

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has named Vikram Mistry, a distinguished IFS Officer from the 1989 batch, as the new Foreign Secretary of India. Mistry, currently serving as the Deputy National Security Advisor (Dy NSA), will assume his new role on July 15, 2024.

Mistry will succeed the incumbent Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, whose extended term concludes on July 14, 2024. Kwatra received an extension on March 12, 2024, extending his tenure until mid-July.

Vikram Mistry’s appointment as Foreign Secretary marks the end of his tenure as Deputy National Security Advisor, a position he has held since 2022. Mistry’s extensive career includes serving as the personal secretary to three Prime Ministers: Inder Kumar Gujral in 1997, Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2012, and Narendra Modi in 2014.
