Prakash Mishra Appointed as Advisor to Odisha CM, Accorded Cabinet Minister Rank

The Odisha government on Monday appointed former Director General of Police (DGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prakash Mishra as the advisor to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The announcement was made through a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance department. It stated, ‘Prakash Mishra, retired IPS officer, has been appointed as the advisor to the Chief Minister.’ Mishra will hold the rank equivalent to a cabinet minister.

A 1977-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Mishra has had an illustrious career. He served as Odisha’s DGP from 2012 to 2014 and was instrumental in tackling Maoist violence in the southern districts of Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput.

After his tenure as Odisha’s DGP, Mishra took on national roles, serving as the Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from 2014 to 2016 and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). His contributions to both law enforcement and disaster response earned him widespread recognition.

Mishra’s appointment as advisor to the Chief Minister is seen as a move to bring his extensive experience and expertise to the governance of Odisha.
