Rekha Gupta, a seasoned BJP leader and first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan. This marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years, following a decisive victory in the Assembly elections, where the party secured 48 out of 70 seats.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, drawing a crowd of over 25,000 attendees, including Hindu seers, community leaders, and senior BJP and NDA leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are among the key dignitaries expected to attend. The event is likely to have a thematic connection to the recent consecration ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
Rekha Gupta’s political journey began with her tenure as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). She has also served as a councillor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and held the position of General Secretary in the Delhi BJP. In the recent elections, she secured a significant victory in Shalimar Bagh, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes.
Joining her in the new government, New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma will assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister, while Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta has been appointed as Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. The Delhi cabinet will consist of a mix of experienced leaders and young faces, representing key communities in the capital.
As Chief Minister, Gupta is expected to focus on fulfilling BJP’s electoral promises and addressing the aspirations of Delhi’s residents. Her leadership will be closely watched as she takes charge of the government after nearly three decades of BJP’s absence in the state’s administration.
