The Centre has approved a one-year extension for Rajesh Kumar Singh, allowing him to continue as Defence Secretary until October 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by the Prime Minister, formalised the decision on October 24, 2026, according to media reports.
Singh is a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Kerala cadre. His tenure was originally scheduled to end on October 31, 2026. The extension will enable him to continue leading the Ministry of Defence’s administrative framework and supporting coordination on defence policy and related government priorities.
The decision maintains continuity in the Ministry’s senior administrative leadership. As Defence Secretary, Singh is responsible for overseeing key administrative functions and coordinating policy matters across the ministry. His extended tenure will continue until October 31, 2027, unless the government issues further orders.
