Nitin Gadkari Announces FASTag-Based Annual Pass for Private Vehicles at ₹3,000

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Wednesday announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass aimed at providing hassle-free travel for private vehicle owners on national highways. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass will be effective from August 15, 2025.

The initiative, applicable only to non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, offers up to 200 highway trips or is valid for one year from the date of activation—whichever comes first. One trip is defined as passing through a single toll plaza.

“In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from 15th August 2025,” Gadkari announced in a post on X. “This pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles and aims to address long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas.”

The Annual Pass will be made available through a dedicated link on the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The system aims to streamline toll payments and reduce congestion, particularly at toll plazas situated within a 60-kilometre range of each other.

‘This policy simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimizing disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners,” the minister added.

FASTag, India’s electronic toll collection system, uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and NHAI, FASTag enables automatic toll deductions via a sticker placed on the vehicle’s windscreen, linked to a bank account or prepaid wallet.

The new Annual Pass is part of the government’s broader push towards digitalisation and ease of travel across the national highway network.
