Srilanka: Strengthening educational collaboration between India and Srilanka, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and the University of Jaffna have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint research, student and faculty exchange.
The signing ceremony was held at the Kilinochchi campus, where Dr. K Pirapaharan, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Jaffna, handed over a copy of the MoU to Raakesh Natraj, the Indian Consul General.
The MoU contains a variety of opportunities for both institutions, including faculty and student exchanges. The initial phase of the exchange program will involve the transfer of approximately 10 students and faculty members each year at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This initiative strives to improve cross-cultural learning experiences and foster academic diversity. In addition, the partnership emphasizes specific areas of joint research, with a particular focus on renewable energy.
Furthermore, IIT Madras’ expertise has been generously offered to help establish a joint research unit in this domain. The University of Jaffna has also indicated plans to set up an incubation cell based on IIT Madras' successful unit.
The esteemed institution has pledged to provide guidance and operational support to ensure the cell’s successful implementation. This partnership is a significant milestone in the journey toward academic excellence and research advancements for both institutions.
