Jamia Gets Approval to Set up Medical College; Plans International Campus

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar announced that the university obtained approval from the Centre to establish a medical college, fulfilling a long-standing demand. Additionally, plans are underway to create an international campus in West Asia.

This significant announcement was made during JMI’s centenary year convocation at Vigyan Bhawan. During the event, degrees, diplomas, and gold medals were conferred upon approximately 12,500 students from the academic years 2019 and 2020, whose convocation had been postponed due to the pandemic.

In her address, Ms. Akhtar not only highlighted the university’s recent accomplishments but also shared strategies to strengthen the esteemed reputation of ‘Brand Jamia’. The Vice-Chancellor stressed that establishing an overseas campus in West Asia aims to foster closer connections between JMI and its alumni worldwide.

Furthermore, Mr. Pradhan emphasized the pivotal role of education and the significance of the National Education Policy in preparing students for the future, particularly as India approaches its 100th year of Independence. He also acknowledged the immense contribution of the university to the Independence movement and expressed confidence in its future intellectual leadership, positioning it at the forefront for the next 25 years.

At the event, Mr. Dhankhar urged the youth to empower themselves by focusing on capacity building, personality development, and creating a nurturing environment and society.
