The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is planning to set up centres for transformational artificial intelligence. These centres will develop AI-based solutions by collaborating with academics and industry.
Abhishek Singh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Digital India Corporation (DIC), President and CEO, National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and, CEO, MyGov, MeitY, said during the ‘AI Virtual Conclave’ said that AI skilling and reskilling is a necessity and how it can help in generating employment. He also highlighted several initiatives launched by the government pertaining to artificial intelligence.
Singh also said that to promote a robust artificial intelligence ecosystem in India, the key role of the government is to facilitate a data governance mechanism through open data portals, with proper safeguards for privacy to allow innovation by researchers and entrepreneurs to build upon and create products for enhanced services.
He further added that rigorous AI research is being initiated in many academic institutions, but still, our country lags far behind in AI research as compared to the US and China.
