Moving towards sustainable and efficient public transportation, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, inaugurated a state-of-the-art e-bus service in Jammu today. The launch ceremony took place through a video conferencing event from New Delhi, marking a milestone in the region’s commitment to environmental conservation.
During his address, Minister highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that 100 fully air-conditioned e-buses have been dedicated to the people of Jammu. The project, which includes the operation and maintenance of these buses for the next 12 years, comes at a total cost of Rs 561 crore.
‘The government has implemented schemes for e-buses across the entire country, and today, Jammu is proud to welcome 100 e-buses into its fleet,’ said Amit Shah. Among these, 25 buses are 12 meters long, while 75 buses measure 9 meters in length. The Home Minister emphasized that the introduction of a reliable, comfortable, economical, and durable public transport facility signifies a significant leap for the people of Jammu.
‘These buses will not only address the commuting challenges faced by the residents but will also contribute significantly to environmental sustainability,’ he added. The e-buses are slated to operate on routes connecting Jammu to Katra, Kathua, Udhampur, as well as internal routes within the city.
The launch of the e-bus service is expected to not only enhance the overall public transportation experience but also aligns with the broader environmental goals of the region.
