Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the commencement of registrations for the Young Scientist Programme, YUVIKA-2024, aimed at igniting the curiosity and passion for space science among school children across India.
YUVIKA, short for ‘YUva VIgyani KAryakram,’ is a special initiative by ISRO designed to provide basic knowledge on Space Science, Space Technology, and Space Applications to young students. The programme aims to foster an understanding of emerging trends in space science and technology, encouraging students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Registration for YUVIKA-2024 will be open from February 20 to March 20, 2024. Interested students studying in Class 9 as of January 1, 2024, can apply for this prestigious programme. The registration process involves several steps:
Step-1: Register on the ISRO Antariksha Jigyasa Platform: https://jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/registration
Step-2: Verify your email by clicking on the verification link sent to your registered email ID.
Step-3: Participate in the SpaceQuiz after reading the guidelines carefully.
Step-4: Fill in your personal profile and education details.
Step-5: Scan and upload attested copies of your certificates, verified by the Principal/Head of School.
Step-6: Generate your certificate for verification by your Principal/Head of School/Parent/Guardian.
Step-7: Scan and upload all necessary documents and submit the application.
The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum including classroom lectures, hands-on activities like robotics challenges, DIY assembly of rockets/satellites, sky gazing, technical facility visits, and interactions with space scientists.
In the previous years, YUVIKA witnessed overwhelming participation, with 111, 153, and 337 students attending the programme in 2019, 2022, and 2023, respectively, representing every State and Union Territory of India. In 2023 alone, over 1.25 lakh students registered for the programme, reflecting the growing interest and enthusiasm for space science among the youth.
