The Union Minister for Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated a Centre of Management Education jointly established by IIM Mumbai and IIM Sambalpur. The inauguration ceremony took place at the NALCO Training Institute in Angul, in the esteemed presence of Sridhar Patra, CMD of NALCO.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister highlighted Angul’s prominence in industrial activities, particularly in coal production, emphasizing the ongoing development of rail and road infrastructures. He announced the alignment of the newly launched Centre of Management Education with the PM Gati Shakti program, aimed at enhancing logistics and supply chain activities through digitization. The focus of this initiative is to elevate the specialized skills of employees working across various industries in the region, fostering the much-needed development of the logistical sector.
Situated within the NALCO Campus in Angul, this Centre of Management Education is poised to play a pivotal role in meeting the skill demands crucial for the Logistics Sector of the state. Minister Pradhan emphasized that the benefits of this center will extend beyond Angul and Dhenkanal districts, positively impacting all industries across Odisha.
The Centre will offer courses ranging from three to six months on Logistics and Operations, along with a one-year Executive Post Graduate Course. These meticulously designed courses have been developed in consultation with industries by the prestigious IIMs. Additionally, the Center will continually introduce new courses to address evolving industry requirements.
Two key players in the region’s industrial landscape, NALCO and MCL, have already took proactive steps to support this initiative. MCL has signed an agreement, selecting forty executives for each batch of the course. Similarly, NALCO has pledged support by providing classrooms, offices, accommodation, and logistical assistance.
Present at the inauguration were distinguished personalities including Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwary, Director of IIM Mumbai, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal from IIM Sambalpur, Shri Keshav Rao, Director (Personnel) of MCL, and Amiya Kumar Swain, ED(S&P) of NALCO.
This pioneering initiative is expected to catalyze the development of the logistics sector not only in Angul and Dhenkanal but also in neighboring districts such as Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Cuttack. With a strategic focus on skill development and industry collaboration, the Centre of Management Education is poised to empower Odisha’s workforce and contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth.
