Ramesh Babu V. Takes Oath as Member of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

Ramesh Babu V. has officially assumed office as a Member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). The oath of office and secrecy was administered by the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh, in a formal ceremony.

Ramesh Babu V. holds an M. Tech degree in Thermal Engineering and a B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. His career has been marked by significant contributions to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), where he held various positions before retiring as Director (Operations) in May 2020.

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, established under the Electricity Regulatory Commissions Act, 1998, and functioning under the Electricity Act, 2003, plays a crucial role in the regulation of the electricity sector in India. The Commission consists of a Chairperson, three Members, and the ex-officio Member, the Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority.

CERC’s key responsibilities include regulating tariffs for generating companies owned or controlled by the Central Government, overseeing tariffs for other generating companies involved in inter-state electricity generation and sales, and managing the inter-state transmission of electricity. Additionally, CERC is tasked with issuing licenses for inter-state transmission and trading, adjudicating disputes, advising the Central Government on the formulation of National Electricity and Tariff Policies, and promoting competition, efficiency, and investment in the electricity industry.
