The Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) for tri-services officers began today at the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune. A total of 166 officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and five friendly foreign countries are participating in the course. This program is designed to train mid-career officers as future techno-warriors and military leaders.

Air Vice Marshal Vivek Blouria, Commandant of MILIT, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the importance of jointness and synergy among the services. He highlighted the critical need for understanding the unique capabilities of each service for effective warfighting in multi-domain operations. AVM Blouria also stressed the importance of developing a strong grasp of emerging technologies and geopolitical issues that impact India’s military and security landscape. He noted that this awareness would enable officers to make informed decisions and contribute effectively to military strategies, including the integration of niche technologies into the services.

The DSTSC will expose officers to various emerging technologies, defence strategies, live and simulated drills, seminars, collaborative projects, and visits to forward areas, defence R&D facilities, and industrial corridors. These activities aim to enhance their understanding of national security strategy, tactical operations, and India’s efforts towards self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) in military technologies.

In a pioneering initiative towards jointness, MILIT has formed Joint Divisions comprising officers from the tri-services. These divisions bring together diverse skill sets and perspectives for joint training. This marks the first DSTSC to be trained by the newly formed Tri-Services Joint Training Teams, an initiative designed to enhance seamless coordination and integration required for multi-domain operations and to foster a joint culture.
