The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, has announced a reshuffle involving three Special Directors of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The timing of this development has raised eyebrows, as it comes just before the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Satyabrata Kumar (IRS C&IT: 2004), who has been serving as Special Director (in-charge) for the Western Region, has been reassigned to oversee the Eastern Region. Kumar is known for his prior role as the staff officer to Sanjay Kumar Mishra, former Director of the ED. His transfer to the Eastern Region replaces Subhash Agrawal (IRS C&IT: 1993), who will now take charge of the Western Region, headquartered in Mumbai.
In addition, Abhishek Goyal (IPS: 2005: KN), currently holding the position of Special Director of Enforcement (HIU), has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of the Northern Region.
This reshuffling of senior ED officials has piqued curiosity, especially given its proximity to the upcoming elections in Maharashtra, a state critical to national politics. The shifts in regional leadership are expected to impact the enforcement dynamics in the respective regions.
Further developments are anticipated as the elections approach.
