Sanjay Kumar Verma Appointed as New Maharashtra DGP, Replacing Rashmi Shukla

In a move ahead of Maharashtra’s Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Sanjay Kumar Verma (IPS: 1990: MH) as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for the state. This decision follows the immediate transfer of Rashmi Shukla (IPS: 1988: MH), Maharashtra’s first woman DGP, who was relieved of her duties on Monday.

Verma’s appointment as DGP is set to strengthen law and order in Maharashtra as the state gears up for the upcoming polls on November 20. The transfer directive, issued by the ECI, aims to ensure impartiality and maintain public confidence in the electoral process. In the interim period between Shukla’s transfer and Verma’s appointment, Vivek Phansalkar (IPS: 1989: MH), Commissioner of Mumbai Police, briefly held the position.
