Agri-tech Startups critical to India’s future economy – Union Minister

Addressing a Conclave-cum-Exhibition on Agri-Tech and Food-Tech in Mysuru, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, India is witnessing the many Agri-tech Startups in the last few years due to enabling policy environment provided by the centre government that has been very effective in addressing the issues of Indian agriculture.

He further added that Agri-Tech startups are critical to India’s future economy. They are providing innovative ideas and affordable solutions to various challenges faced all across the agricultural value chain. It has the potential to change the face of the agriculture sector and eventually raise the income of farmers.

Singh said, “Transforming India’s FoodTech, AgriTech & Agronomic Landscape” the theme-based third edition of “TechBharat” is a timely one as Agriculture is one of the important pillars of the Indian economy. About 54 percent population in the country depends directly on agriculture and it accounts for around 20 percent of GDP.

Jitendra Singh strongly emphasized adopting modern and new technology in the Agricultural sector. Agri-Tech means using an application of modern technologies in the agricultural sector to enhance productivity, efficiency as well as revenue. The concept extends to any applications, practices, products, and services that have the potential to enhance any aspect of the agricultural process.
