Amitabh Kant Joins HCLTech Board as Independent Director

HCLTech has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant, former G20 Sherpa of India and former CEO of NITI Aayog, as an Independent Director, effective September 8, 2025.

Welcoming him to the Board, C. Vijayakumar, CEO & Managing Director, HCLTech, said:

A Distinguished Career in Policy & Reform

Mr. Kant most recently served as India’s G20 Sherpa, playing a key role in steering global policy discussions. Over the years, he has held several senior positions in the Government of India, including:

  • CEO, NITI Aayog – spearheading transformative reforms and innovation-led policies.

  • Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) – driving investment and ease of doing business reforms.

  • CEO, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) – leading infrastructure growth.

  • Secretary, Tourism, Government of Kerala – where he conceptualised the iconic “God’s Own Country” campaign, which later inspired the global “Incredible India” brand.

He is widely recognized as the architect behind initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, Ease of Doing Business reforms, and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, which have had a lasting impact on India’s economic growth.

Mr. Kant’s appointment strengthens HCLTech’s vision of accelerating digital transformation and innovation while expanding its global footprint. His expertise in policy-making, institution-building, and public-private partnerships is expected to provide valuable guidance as HCLTech continues to shape the future of technology-led business solutions.
