The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 12 results for the academic year 2024–25 today. According to the official data, a total of 17,04,367 students had registered for the Class 12 board examinations. Of these, 16,92,794 students appeared for the exams, and 14,96,307 students successfully passed.
The overall pass percentage has shown a minor increase compared to the previous year, indicating a positive trend in academic performance.
CBSE also announced that the Class 10 results will be released soon.
A significant change introduced this academic session is the implementation of a new ‘Relative Grading’ system. This system has replaced the earlier fixed grading model, which assigned grades based on pre-defined mark ranges — for instance, 91–100 for grade A1 and 81–90 for grade A2.
The newly introduced Relative Grading system evaluates a student’s performance in relation to their peers, with grade cutoffs determined by subject-wise performance trends and the number of passing candidates. The move is aimed at reducing academic stress and curbing unhealthy competition among students.
The CBSE stated that this change is part of its continued efforts to make assessments more holistic and student-friendly.
