Puducherry: The Union Home Ministry has given its approval to the proposal put forth by Puducherry to introduce a 10% reservation quota for students who have studied from Class I-XII in government- run schools in Puducherry and passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance test (NEET).
This newly implemented reservation policy will be advantageous for students who have successfully cleared the NEET examination and completed their education from government schools starting from standard one.
The reservation is for admissions to MBBS/BDS/BAMS courses in government and private self- financing medical colleges in the Union Territory under the government quota seats, starting from the academic year 2023-24. This ensures that students have access to professional healthcare education in both government and private institutions.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy stated that the allocation would be beneficial for 37 NEET-qualified government schools’ students, enabling them to secure medical admissions annually. This initiative aims to assist economically disadvantaged students. Our endeavor is to enhance the quality of government schools, thereby facilitating a greater number of students in passing the test. The government remains dedicated to filling all teaching vacancies and improving school infrastructure, affirmed Rangasamy.
