In a significant move towards enhancing education in mining districts, Coal India Limited (CIL) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EdCIL (India) Ltd, a consultancy and project management firm. The collaborative effort aims to usher in a pioneering education initiative aligned with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, spanning 11 mining districts in Jharkhand.
The official announcement from the coal ministry on Friday revealed the ambitious plan for ‘digitising education’ in the specified Jharkhand districts. These regions, crucial for the coal industry, fall under the jurisdiction of three subsidiaries of CIL – Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), and Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL).
Over the next three years, the project is set to unfold with an estimated cost of Rs 27.08 crore. The initiative encompasses a comprehensive strategy, including the digitization of educational resources, teacher training programs, and a meticulous three-year maintenance plan for the installed equipment.
CIL, as a key player in India’s coal sector, holds a dominant position, contributing to over 80 per cent of the nation’s coal output. The collaboration with EdCIL (India) Ltd underscores a commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of education, especially in regions integral to the mining industry.
The digitization of education is expected to bring about transformative changes, providing students and educators with advanced tools and resources. The strategic focus on teacher training emphasizes the holistic development of the education ecosystem in these mining districts.
As the initiative unfolds, it is anticipated to create a positive impact on the educational landscape, aligning with the broader vision outlined in the New Education Policy of 2020. This collaboration exemplifies the synergy between the public and private sectors in addressing critical challenges and fostering progress in the realm of education.
