The government of India launched Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) program with an aim to achieve commercial silicon of SHAKTI & VEGA and design wins for the next generation of microprocessors by December 2023. RISC-V is a free and open ISA facilitating a new era of processor innovation through open standard collaboration. This initiative of the government is another significant step toward recognizing the dream of self-reliance towards “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that DIR-V will witness the collaboration between Startups, Academics, and Multinational required to make India a RISC-V Talent Hub for the world and also the export RISC-V SoC (System on Chips) for Servers, Mobile devices, Automotive, IoT & Microcontrollers globally.
He further added, “The Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) program aims to create future generations of microprocessors that will serve the need of the country’s strategic focus on mobility, computing, and digitization. The program also aims to facilitate the creation of Microprocessors for the future in India as well as other nations and to achieve industry-grade silicon & design wins by December 2023.”
