With an aim to bolster healthcare infrastructure and fostering self-reliance in the pharmaceutical and MedTech sector, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers & Health and Family Welfare, virtually inaugurated the permanent campus of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Guwahati, Assam. The ceremony also included the laying of foundation stones for NIPER Hyderabad and NIPER Raebareli.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya underscored the pivotal role that NIPERs play in the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi towards building a self-reliant India in the pharmaceutical and MedTech domain. He highlighted NIPER’s reputation in technical and higher education, with over 8,000 successful graduates and more than 380 patents to its name.
“The NIPERs are on the path of making a significant contribution to promoting overall human health and well-being, not only nationally but also globally,” stated Dr. Mandaviya. He emphasized the integration of research, training, and manpower creation, positioning India’s Pharma Industry on the global stage.
The ceremony also witnessed the dedication of five new facilities in the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Science (RIPANS) in Aizawl, Mizoram. The facilities include a 100-bedded hospital, Guest House, Staff and Nurses Quarters, and General Hostel Block.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya acknowledged the government’s commitment to creating a progressive Northeast and a unified nation. He expressed elation at the allocation of funds, totaling 404.22 Crores, for the advancement of healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast under the Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and the National Health Mission (NHM).
A notable investment of 127.34 Crores has been directed towards RIPANS in Aizawl, focusing on the dedication of five essential buildings. This includes a Hospital Block, General Hostel Block, Guest House, Resident Doctors Quarters, and Staff/Nurse Quarters.
“The health facilities created in the 7 states of Northeast will provide treatment to the people and training and employment to the youth, opening new doors of progress in these areas,” remarked Dr. Mandaviya. He applauded Assam for its strategic efforts in establishing a grid of Cancer Treatment Centers in collaboration with Tata Memorial Institute, benefiting the entire Northeast region.
The Union Minister also shed light on efforts to strengthen India’s dominance in the pharmaceutical sector and reduce dependence on imported APIs and medical devices. Three bulk drug parks are underway, and the launch of the PLI scheme in the pharma and MedTech sector was highlighted.
The foundation stone laying for health infrastructure in the 7 Northeast states includes Critical Care Blocks, Integrated Public Health Laboratories, Block Public Health Units, and Ayushman Arogya Mandir. Additionally, the upgradation of Assam Medical College under PMSSY includes a 265-bedded Super Speciality Block, 64 ICU beds, and 12 Dialysis beds.
The initiatives unveiled in this ceremony reflect a steadfast commitment to creating a robust and resilient healthcare system to address the evolving needs of the populace in the Northeast region.
