Finance Minister Launches NITI NCAER States Economic Forum

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the NITI NCAER States Economic Forum, a data-driven portal developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). The initiative aims to provide a comprehensive repository of state-level economic, social, and fiscal data, fostering informed policy discussions and research.

The newly unveiled portal serves as an extensive database covering approximately 30 years of state financial and economic information. It integrates research reports, papers, and expert commentaries, making it a vital resource for policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders.

The forum comprises four main components:

  1. State Reports – Detailed analyses of the macroeconomic and fiscal landscapes of all 28 Indian states, providing critical insights into key financial trends and state-wise fiscal health.
  2. Data Repository – A customizable platform where users can select and download datasets based on specific variables, allowing for tailored and in-depth data analysis.
  3. State Fiscal and Economic Dashboard – A Tableau-based visualization tool that presents key economic indicators in a graphical format, enabling users to track trends, compare states, and assess national averages.
  4. Research and Commentary – A section featuring expert research papers, opinion pieces, and past Finance Commission reports, offering deeper perspectives on state finances and policy matters.

The NITI NCAER States Economic Forum is designed to facilitate a clearer understanding of macroeconomic, fiscal, demographic, and socio-economic trends across states. By consolidating sectoral data in a user-friendly format, it aims to enhance transparency, support data-driven policymaking, and encourage informed debates on state finances.

The portal is expected to be a valuable tool for state governments, researchers, and policymakers in tracking financial trends and shaping effective economic strategies for sustainable development.
