Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been granted a six-month extension by the government, extending his tenure until the end of October 2024. This decision comes as part of a series of extensions for several senior bureaucrats to ensure efficient operations in light of the upcoming general elections. Kwatra’s original tenure was set to conclude on April 30, 2024.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order stating, ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Vinay Mohan Kwatra as Foreign Secretary for a period of six months beyond 30.04.2024, i.e., up to 31.10.2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.’
Vinay Mohan Kwatra, a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, was appointed as Foreign Secretary in April 2022. In November 2022, another order granted him a 16-month extension, which was set to end in April 2024.
