In an initiative to enhance public awareness and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, launched a nationwide public awareness program organized by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The launch event, held in the presence of Prof SP Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State for Family Welfare, and Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, saw the participation of more than 20 lakh people across the nation.
Emphasizing the critical nature of immediate treatment during a cardiac arrest, Dr. Mandaviya stressed the importance of awareness and adequate training for CPR. The Union Ministers actively participated in the training session, demonstrating the prescribed guidelines and underscoring the significance of CPR training.
Dr. Mandaviya commended the initiative, stating, ‘It is vital that we maintain good heart health and adopt a holistic approach towards health. However, in the proximity of someone suffering from a cardiac arrest, if one is trained in CPR technique, it will enable us to save lives. This is a very commendable effort, and I congratulate it.’
This marks the first CPR awareness program conducted on a national level in the country. Participants, including students, professionals, and paramedical staff, received training in a single sitting through an online medium. Trained doctors present at various venues explained the CPR technique and addressed queries from participants. The NBEMS issued certificates of participation to acknowledge the commitment of those involved.
Dr. Mandaviya encouraged everyone to undergo the training, highlighting that anyone can suffer from a cardiac arrest at any given point in time, and enhanced knowledge and training will aid in administering the right procedures and save lives.
Lauding the public involvement and participation in the training, Dr. Mandaviya stated, ‘Today NBEMS has conducted this awareness program on a national level, which will serve to magnify awareness and enhance the reach of this initiative to the farthest corners of the nation.’
The conference was attended by key figures in the medical field, including Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President, NBEMS, Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Vice-President, NBEMS, Dr. S N Basu, Member, Governing Body, NBEMS, and Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Member, Governing Body, NBEMS, along with senior government officials.
