The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and the Carbon Market Association of India (CMAI) have signed a MoU in New Delhi. This strategic partnership aims to equip industry professionals, policymakers, and academicians with the necessary knowledge and expertise to navigate India’s evolving carbon markets.
The event was graced by the presence of Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, who emphasized the crucial role of biofuels and green hydrogen in shaping India’s economic and environmental future. He highlighted the country’s pioneering initiatives in sustainable energy, including pilot projects in Bio Bitumen, Bio Aviation Fuel, and Bio CNG.
Minister underscored the transformative potential of biofuels and alternative energy sources, stating, Conversion of knowledge into wealth is the future, and no material is waste. He also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) in the sector and reiterated his vision of achieving hydrogen production costs at $1 per kg, positioning India as a global leader in green hydrogen research and development. With substantial research currently underway, he expressed confidence that India will soon emerge as a Green Hydrogen exporting nation.
Additionally, the Minister lauded the launch of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Alliance and the various capacity-building initiatives in this domain, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering a diversified and sustainable biofuels sector.
Under the MoU, IICA and CMAI will collaborate in the following key areas:
- Training Programmes: Developing and delivering specialized courses on carbon markets, low-carbon industrial solutions, and sustainable finance.
- Joint Research: Conducting studies and publishing insights on decarbonisation strategies and carbon trading mechanisms.
- Workshops and Conferences: Organizing events to facilitate dialogue among industry stakeholders, policymakers, and academics.
- Policy Advocacy: Supporting regulatory and policy frameworks that drive India’s net zero ambitions.
