IIT Kharagpur is also planning to initiate a dual degree program that will allow students to simultaneously pursue BTech and MTech courses. Furthermore, the institute will introduce a four-year bachelor’s degree program in the field of science, expanding its educational opportunities.
To offer students more flexibility and diverse opportunities, IIT Kharagpur has made significant changes to its academic structure. Under the new guidelines, students will have the freedom to choose subjects not only from the undergraduate curriculum but also from the postgraduate curriculum. This move aims to broaden the range of electives available to students, promoting interdisciplinary learning.

In a notable modification to the undergraduate courses, the previous eight-week summer internship has been replaced with an extended eight-month research internship option. The provision for internships will also be extended to postgraduate courses, allowing students to gain valuable practical experience and exposure to real-world scenarios, thereby enhancing their learning and employability.
Keeping in line with its commitment to embracing internationalization, IIT Kharagpur has established an international student office.
