Japan Commits JPY 232.209 Billion ODA Loan for 9 Projects Across Various Sectors in India

The Government of Japan has committed Official Development Assistance (ODA) loans totalling Japanese Yen (JPY) 232.209 billion for nine crucial projects across various sectors in India. The exchange of notes sealing this commitment took place today between Mr. Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and Mr. Suzuki Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to India.

The allocated ODA loan assistance is earmarked for diverse projects aimed at fostering growth and development in different regions of India:

  1. North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project (Phase 3) (Tranche II): This segment focuses on the construction of the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge, with an allocation of JPY 34.54 billion.
  2. North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project (Phase 7): JPY 15.56 billion is designated for the development of NH 127B, particularly the Phulbari-Goeragre section.
  3. Project for Promoting Start-up and Innovation in Telangana: With an allocation of JPY 23.7 billion, this project aims to nurture entrepreneurship and innovation, with a special emphasis on empowering women and rural communities.
  4. Project for the Construction of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (Phase 2): JPY 49.85 billion will be utilized for alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in Chennai’s southern region.
  5. Project for Promoting Sustainable Horticulture in Haryana (Tranche I): This initiative, with an allocation of JPY 16.21 billion, focuses on promoting sustainable horticulture practices and improving farmer incomes in Haryana.
  6. Project for Climate Change Response and Ecosystem Services Enhancement in Rajasthan: JPY 26.13 billion is allocated to enhance ecosystem services through afforestation and biodiversity conservation in Rajasthan.
  7. Project for the Establishment of the Medical College Hospital at Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Kohima: JPY 10 billion will be utilized to develop tertiary-level medical services in Nagaland, contributing to universal health coverage.
  8. Project for the Improvement of Urban Water Supply System in Uttarakhand: With an allocation of JPY 16.21 billion, this project aims to provide stable water supply to urban towns in Uttarakhand.
  9. Dedicated Freight Corridor Project (Phase 1) (Tranche V): JPY 40 billion is designated for the construction of a dedicated freight railway system, facilitating the modernization of intermodal logistics and handling increased freight traffic.
