K Sanjay Murthy Appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General of India

The President of India has appointed K Sanjay Murthy (IAS: 1989: HP) as the next Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, succeeding Girish Chandra Murmu (Retd IAS: 1984: GJ), whose tenure concludes on November 20, 2024. Murthy will officially take the oath of office on November 21, 2024.

Currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Murthy is a distinguished civil servant with decades of experience in public administration. He is scheduled to attain superannuation on December 31, 2024.

With his elevation to the role of CAG, the position of Secretary in the Department of Higher Education becomes vacant, adding to the growing list of key unfilled posts, including Secretary positions in the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), and the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE).
