Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during the 7th Edition of the ASSOCHAM AI Leadership Meet 2024. Themed ‘AI for India: Advancing India’s AI Development – Innovation, Ethics, and Governance,’ the event outlined India’s roadmap for harnessing AI to drive innovation and foster sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh described AI as a cornerstone of India’s future growth, emphasizing its pivotal role in reshaping key sectors such as governance, business, healthcare, education, and space exploration. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for initiating AI-driven programs and launching transformative initiatives like the National Quantum Mission.
‘Artificial Intelligence is an essential tool, but its optimal use requires responsible handling,’ said Dr. Singh, highlighting the government’s commitment to developing robust frameworks to address challenges like algorithmic bias and data privacy. He stressed that AI must bridge societal divides and empower citizens rather than replace them.
The Minister called for India’s active participation in global platforms such as the United Nations and G20 to establish a rules-based AI framework. ‘India envisions a future where AI not only drives economic growth but also addresses pressing challenges like climate change, public service delivery, and national security,’ he said.
Dr. Singh outlined a vision for India to emerge as a global AI leader by 2047, emphasizing collaborative efforts among policymakers, industry leaders, and technologists. ‘AI must empower people and ensure equitable access to its benefits, paving the way for inclusive development,’ he added.
