Maharashtra Registers Over 75,000 Schools for RTE Admissions in 2024-25 Academic Year

Maharashtra has registered a total of 75,039 schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the upcoming academic year 2024-25. This registration effort, overseen by the State Education Board officials, aims to provide 9,61,668 seats through the RTE system.

Under the RTE Act, 25% of these seats are reserved for children from economically and socially weaker sections. The State School Education Department is spearheading the RTE admission process, which now includes government and aided schools in addition to other eligible institutions.

With the exception of minority schools, residential schools, and partially aided schools, all other schools have been successfully registered. This development comes in line with recent amendments made to the RTE Act, expanding its scope and reach.

‘Pune district leads the state with an impressive 4,986 schools registered for RTE admissions, offering a total of 74,024 seats,’ stated Sharad Gosavi, the state director of the Primary Education Department. Following Pune, Ahmednagar district has 4,052 registered schools with 51,338 available seats for admissions. Notably, Nashik district, while ranking third in school registrations, boasts an admission capacity of 60,296 seats.

‘The school registration data collected for the RTE admission process will now be forwarded to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for further processing,’ Gosavi added. Subsequently, the student registration process will commence, marking another step forward in ensuring equitable access to quality education across Maharashtra.
