Indian Government Appoints New Ambassadors to Chile and Iraq

The Government of India has named two distinguished diplomats as its new Ambassadors to key countries, further strengthening India’s diplomatic ties on the global stage.

IFS officer Abhilasha Joshi (1995 batch), currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as India’s new Ambassador to Chile. With a career spanning nearly three decades, she has held various significant positions in the Ministry.

As the Ambassador to the Republic of Chile, Joshi will be tasked with representing India’s interests in the South American nation, fostering bilateral relations, and promoting cooperation across various sectors.

In another notable appointment, IFS officer Soumendu Bagchi, a senior diplomat from the 1993 batch, has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to Iraq. Bagchi currently holds the position of Deputy Director General at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
