In a key administrative development aimed at boosting India’s startup ecosystem, Mamatha Venkatesh has been appointed as the new Head of Startup India under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Her appointment is expected to further strengthen the Startup India initiative, which was launched in January 2016 with the goal of fostering innovation, facilitating regulatory ease, and supporting budding entrepreneurs across the country.

Since its inception, Startup India has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s entrepreneurial landscape. The initiative has enabled the recognition of over 100,000 startups, promoted ease of doing business through regulatory reforms, and facilitated access to funding, mentorship, and market opportunities.

Venkatesh’s leadership comes at a time when India’s startup sector continues to expand across diverse industries. Her experience and commitment are expected to guide the next phase of growth for Startup India, with an increased focus on enabling sustainable innovation and deepening support mechanisms for early-stage enterprises.
