MeitY Inaugurates Renewable Energy Microgrid Power Plant for Rural Communities

New Delhi: MeitY Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma has officially inaugurated a Microgrid Power Plant for Renewable Energy, aimed at fulfilling the electrical energy requirements of rural communities. This noteworthy event marks a significant step forward in bringing sustainable power solutions to these underserved areas.

Renewable Energy Microgrid Power Plant -A renewable energy microgrid is an autonomous, localised, and self-contained energy system that incorporates renewable energy sources as its primary generation inputs. It consists of various components and systems that work in synergy to produce, store, manage, and distribute energy in a localized and sustainable manner.

In the autonomous mode of operation of a microgrid, it produces, stores, and distributes electricity within a designated area or community, prioritizing the utilization of renewable energy sources to minimize dependence on nonrenewable fuels and mitigate environmental impact. In the interconnected mode of operation, the microgrid can interact with the utility grid and exporting surplus power if there is an excess of locally required generation.

Alkesh Kumar Sharma -In the microgrid scheme implemented in ERC, a unique 25kW Power Conditioning Unit (PCU) technology using Silicon Carbide, a Wide Band Gap (WBG) Semiconductor device operating at  50kHz and avoiding bulky 50Hz transformer make the system very compact and a container-based deployment in a remote location is realized. The above Technology is developed by CDAC.

Addressing the gathering, Alkesh Kumar Sharma stated, ‘MeitY is prioritising and putting enormous efforts to realize unique technology development and deployments through C-DAC. The reliable green energy-based microgrid seems to be providing the power solution for critical systems in the Veterinary hospital systems in ERC. We need to concentrate and focus our efforts to high-performance and efficient technology and system developments. The technology shall be extended to remote communities through wider deployments.’

Sharma also appreciated the initiative and support being provided by the forest department for technology evaluation. He also informed that green technology is effectively being used in the rehabilitation of wild animals also here. The system shall be used for the dissemination of such advanced technologies to society, especially the younger generation and school children.
