In a significant step towards the Prime Minister’s vision of a digitally enabled, self-reliant India, the Ministry of Coal has introduced the Mine Opening Permission module on the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal. Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, inaugurated the module on November 7, 2024. This new digital initiative is set to streamline and expedite the process of granting approvals for coal mine operations.
The Mine Opening Permission module aims to simplify the complex procedures involved in opening new coal mines or expanding existing operations. By enabling online applications and offering real-time tracking, the module eliminates cumbersome paperwork, significantly reduces processing time, and enhances transparency, promoting an investment-friendly environment in the coal sector.
Launched on January 11, 2021, the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) serves as a unified platform for coal mining clearances. The addition of the Mine Opening Permission module furthers the Ministry’s commitment to technological advancement, ensuring ease of doing business, while fostering India’s energy security and sustainable growth in the coal sector.
This initiative supports India’s transition towards a “Viksit Bharat,” with a digitally driven economy that is transparent, efficient, and conducive to growth and innovation. By streamlining approval processes, the Ministry is not only accelerating coal mine openings but also advancing the nation’s vision of self-reliance and sustainable development.
