The Ministry of Defence has finalized contracts worth ₹10,147 crore with Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), Munitions India Limited (MIL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to enhance the Indian Army’s firepower and technological capabilities. The agreements were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
Under these contracts, EEL will supply Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM), while MIL will provide High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets for the PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). Additionally, BEL has been awarded a contract to upgrade the SHAKTI Software, a key component of India’s defence technology infrastructure.
Boost to Artillery and Indigenous Defence Industry
The ADM Type-1 (DPICM) warhead is designed to deploy multiple sub-munitions over a broad area, effectively neutralizing enemy personnel, mechanized forces, and vehicles. Meanwhile, the HEPF Mk-1 (E) rockets are an advanced version of existing HEPF rockets, featuring an extended range for deep strikes with enhanced precision and lethality.
This procurement marks a significant milestone in the modernization of Artillery Rocket Regiments, reinforcing the Indian Army’s capability for long-range, high-impact operations.
Beyond strengthening national security, the projects are expected to drive employment generation by promoting Indian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) involved in defence manufacturing. The initiative aligns with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production.
Towards a Stronger and More Self-Sufficient Defence Ecosystem
With this investment, the Ministry of Defence continues its focus on equipping the armed forces with cutting-edge technology while fostering the growth of indigenous defence industries. These procurements not only enhance operational preparedness but also serve as a crucial step toward reducing dependence on foreign defence imports.
