N. Muruganandam Appointed as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Secretary

The Tamil Nadu government has appointed senior IAS officer N. Muruganandam as the new Chief Secretary, replacing Shiv Das Meena. The announcement came on Monday, just before Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s scheduled visit to the United States.

A 1991-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Muruganandam brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He holds a degree in computer science engineering and an MBA from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.  Muruganandam has had an illustrious career, serving in several key positions, including as the Collector of Coimbatore, Karur, and Chennai. He also held the posts of Secretary in the Finance and Industries Departments, and served as the Resident Commissioner in Tamil Nadu House, New Delhi.

Before his new appointment, Muruganandam was serving as Secretary-I to the Chief Minister. He is credited with playing a significant role in attracting investments to the state during his tenure as Industries Secretary under both the AIADMK and DMK governments.

He assumed office at the Secretariat following the issuance of the government order. He is set to retire in December 2027.
