NHAI and DMRC to Strengthen Design and Construction of Bridges, Structures

New Delhi: To ensure top-notch National Highways network, NHAI partners with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to evaluate designs of various bridges/ structures, ensure safety in NHAI projects and enhance the expertise of NHAI officials.

The agreement will remain effective for a period of two years. This collaboration showcases the partnership between two Government Organizations, aiming to exchange best practices and jointly improve the transportation infrastructure network, contributing to the objective of Nation Building.

DMRC will provide design review services for all bridges/structures in ongoing NHAI projects as per the agreement. The agreement also encompasses reviewing the designs of randomly selected bridges, structures, tunnels, retaining walls (RE walls), and other specialized structures.

Under this agreement, DMRC will also assist NHAI:

  • In assessing stand-alone bridges and special structures during the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage.
  • In reviewing construction methodologies, temporary structures, lifting and launching methods, pre-stressing methods of select bridges and structures and special structures on random basis.
  • In organizing customized training programs for capacity building of NHAI officials. This will include design, construction, supervision, maintenance and safety aspects in elevated structures and bridges.

The MoU was signed in presence of NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC along with other senior officials from NHAI and DMRC. This initiative will strengthen NHAI’s ‘Design Division’ that reviews planning, designing, construction and maintenance of bridges, structures, tunnels and RE walls on National Highways across the country.
