NITI Aayog, National Maritime Foundation Sign Statement of Intent to Advance India’s Maritime Vision

In a strategic move to bolster India’s maritime capabilities and policy framework, NITI Aayog and the National Maritime Foundation (NMF) have signed a Statement of Intent aimed at fostering collaboration on maritime research, policy development, and capacity building.

The SoI was signed by Maj Gen K Narayanan, AVSM, SM (Retd), Programme Director (Security and Law), NITI Aayog, and Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, AVSM & Bar, VSM (Retd), Director-General of NMF, at a formal event held in the capital.

As part of the partnership, NMF will take the lead in driving the technical and strategic dimensions of maritime initiatives, while NITI Aayog will coordinate multi-stakeholder engagement and ensure policy alignment with national priorities.

Officials stated that the collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to the formulation of forward-looking maritime policies, enhance India’s strategic maritime footprint, and support the development of human capital in the maritime sector.

The joint initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to transform India into a strong maritime nation and reinforce its position in the Indo-Pacific region.
