Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Third Edition of India Energy Week 2025

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, delivered a video message today at the inauguration of the third edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. Addressing a distinguished gathering, he emphasized that the attendees are not merely participants of the event but key stakeholders in India’s energy ambitions.

India Energy Week, envisioned as a dynamic platform rather than just an industry conference, has rapidly emerged as the world’s second-largest energy event within two years. Scheduled from February 11-14, 2025, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, the event marks a significant milestone in shaping the global energy narrative.

Highlighting India’s remarkable growth trajectory, Shri Modi stated, “India is not only driving its own growth but also contributing significantly to the global economy, with the energy sector playing a crucial role.” He underscored India’s energy ambitions built on five foundational pillars:

  1. Harnessing energy resources efficiently
  2. Encouraging innovation and research
  3. Economic strength and political stability
  4. Strategic geographic advantage for energy trade
  5. Commitment to global sustainability and climate action

The Prime Minister highlighted that India has surged from the tenth to the fifth-largest global economy in the past decade. He noted that India’s solar power generation capacity has increased thirty-two times over the last ten years, making the country the third-largest solar power generator in the world. Additionally, India’s non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled, and the country is the first G20 nation to achieve its Paris Agreement goals.

PM also underscored India’s significant progress in ethanol blending, reaching a current blending rate of 19%, which has resulted in foreign exchange savings, increased farmer revenues, and reduced CO2 emissions. With a target of achieving a 20% ethanol mandate by October 2025, India’s biofuels sector is poised for exponential growth, backed by 500 million metric tonnes of sustainable feedstock. The Prime Minister also highlighted the establishment of the Global Biofuels Alliance during India’s G20 presidency, which now includes 28 nations and 12 international organizations, transforming waste into wealth and establishing Centers of Excellence.

Emphasizing India’s continuous reforms to maximize its hydrocarbon potential, Shri Modi highlighted major discoveries and the extensive expansion of gas infrastructure, which are driving the growth of the gas sector. India, currently the fourth-largest refining hub, is actively working to expand its refining capacity by 20%.

The Prime Minister also pointed out India’s vast sedimentary basins, rich in hydrocarbon resources, and reiterated the Government’s commitment to making the upstream sector more attractive through policy measures such as the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP). He detailed the comprehensive support extended by the Government, including the opening of the Exclusive Economic Zone, the establishment of a single-window clearance system, and amendments to the Oilfields Regulation & Development Act, which offer stakeholders policy stability, extended leases, and improved financial terms.

PM Modi underlined that with ongoing discoveries and the expansion of pipeline infrastructure, India is poised to increase its natural gas supply and utilization in the near future. He invited investors to explore the vast opportunities in India’s energy sector, emphasizing that the country is committed to sustainable, secure, and inclusive energy growth.

India Energy Week 2025 is set to continue shaping global energy dialogues, fostering innovation, and driving investments in the energy sector.
