The Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services, Government of India, has announced the appointment of Shri R. Doraiswamy as the CEO & MD of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), as per an official notification issued today.
A Direct Recruit Officer from the 17th batch, Doraiswamy brings with him over 39 years of extensive experience in the insurance sector, covering key areas such as operations, marketing, technology, and academics.
During his tenure as Managing Director, Doraiswamy led various strategic functions including Marketing through Bancassurance, Group Business, Customer Relations, Finance, and Compliance. He has held several prominent leadership roles across LIC, including Executive Director (Information Technology/Software Development), Regional Manager (Marketing/Chief Life Insurance Advisor), Regional Manager (Pension & Group Schemes) at the Southern Zonal Office in Chennai, Senior Divisional Manager of Kottayam Division, and Marketing Manager for Chennai-I, Thanjavur, and Pune divisions.
He played a pivotal role in modernizing LIC’s IT infrastructure and business applications in the Individual Business segment during his stint as Chief & Executive Director. Under his leadership, the Southern Zone saw significant growth and productivity in Group Insurance Marketing.
Beyond his operational roles, Doraiswamy has contributed to the academic field as a Research Associate at the National Insurance Academy, Pune, where he worked on projects related to Micro Insurance, Insurance Law and Regulations, and Product Development. He also contributed to content development for postgraduate programs in Insurance Management and Chartered Financial Planning.
Doraiswamy holds a degree in Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University. He is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India and a student member of the Institute of Actuaries of India.
