Union Power Secretary Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Control Room at NHPC Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project

Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal inaugurated the state-of-the-art Power House Control Room at NHPC’s 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP), marking a significant milestone in the commissioning of India’s largest hydroelectric project.

The newly inaugurated facility, equipped with cutting-edge monitoring and control systems, is one of the most advanced control centers in the country. It is designed to manage the seamless operation of the project’s eight 250 MW Francis turbines and associated critical infrastructure, ensuring optimal power generation and efficient management of the hydroelectric complex.

The Subansiri Lower HE Project, a run-of-the-river scheme on the Subansiri River located on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, is a key component of India’s clean energy expansion. Once commissioned, the project is expected to generate approximately 7,500 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, contributing significantly to the nation’s renewable energy targets and helping meet the rising power demand.

The project has witnessed accelerated progress in recent months. Key milestones include the dam reaching its top level and the successful installation of the spillway radial gates. The commissioning phase is now within reach, driven by the dedicated efforts of all stakeholders.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri R.P. Goyal, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, and Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC. Also present were the Executive Director and Head of Project (HOP) of SLHEP, along with senior officials from NHPC and the Ministry of Power.
