The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Ramesh Krishnamurthi (IRS IT:1992) as the new Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Krishnamurthi, who currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Labour & Employment, will take over the role from Neelam Shammi Rao (IAS:1992), who has been appointed as Secretary of the National Commission for Minorities.
Krishnamurthi will now be responsible for overseeing EPFO’s operations, including ensuring the proper investment of funds, declaring interest rates for each financial year, and guiding the transition to computerized accounting. He will also be accountable for the organization’s budget and annual report and managing internal audits. His predecessor, Neelam Shammi Rao, led EPFO since December 2021 and contributed to significant advancements in the organization.
