RBI launches UPI123Pay that allows UPI payments on feature phones

Shaktikanta Das, Governor, Reserve Bank of India has launched Unified Payment Interface (UPI) service for feature phones. Till now, UPI was only available across all smartphones in India. The service termed UPI123PAY will facilitate 40 crore feature phone users across the country to access the payment services and allow them to send and receive payments.

The Unified Payment Service launched for feature phones is a three-step method to initiate and execute services for users using feature phones having no internet connection. These users will now be able to undertake a number of transactions by Calling on IVR (Interactive Voice Response), App functionality in feature phones, Missed call-based approach, and Proximity Sound-based payments.

Users will now easily make payments to their friends and family, recharge Fastags, pay utility bills, pay mobile bills, and also check their account balances.
